After spending 22 years as the Sales and Marketing Director at Gem Vending ltd , subsequently Selecta, I made the difficult decision to leave the business 3 days before the first COVID lockdown, writes Nicola Hill.
My dreams were of a self-indulgent rest and some quality me-time, so I could re-evaluate my priorities and decide on my next direction. Needless to say, that never happened: instead, I found myself home schooling my two amazing children. At 15 Years, my daughter couldn’t wait for me to return to work; but I think she secretly enjoyed our girl time. As for my 11 years old son, I can only say a boy paints a different picture. He felt I was too strict a teacher for him.
In truth, we spent a great summer in the garden punctuated by long walks with our dog. I also helped out locally. As a keen runner, the wonderful weather in 2020 was a bonus, although running in a face mask is not a winner!
The highlight of my social life became a power walk to the local coffee shop for a caffeine fix. The time-out gave me the opportunity to consider my future and how I might use the skills I’ve acquired over the last 22 years, to bring something new and different to the market.
So here we are. On 23rd March 2021, I joined some of my ex-colleagues at East Midlands Vending Ltd, as Managing Director. A new chapter in my life has begun, and I have a feeling that it’s going to be a real page turner…
See you around when the madness is over!
