Getting your picture taken with the Carabao Cup trophy has become a staple of recent Vendex shows, but this year there’s another tasteful reason for visiting the Carabao stand.

‘Carabao Sport’, Ash Ellis says. ‘I’d urge anybody who hasn’t tried our new isotonic sport drink to make a point of visiting us in Leeds, because it’s the great taste of these drinks that’s behind their success.’

There’s an incumbent risk in launching a new product into any market that’s dominated by one brand; but Carabao’s isotonic pick-me-up has already won an army of fans and it promises to do brisk business through the nation’s spirals.

There’s news too regarding Carabao’s growing involvement in the national game: ‘We’ve recently become ‘official sports drink partner’ for a number of professional men’s and women’s football clubs’ Ash says, then he reels off: ‘Crewe Alexandra, Grimsby Town, Lincoln City, Swansea City and Reading. Also, St Mirren and Motherwell. And more clubs are coming on board all the time.’
