It looks like a traditional coffee machine, not a modern bean-to-cup model – but that’s exactly what it is: however, the ‘traditional’ look of the machine is no accident, as Douwe Egberts Concept Manager Martijn van dem Ham explained.
‘The public’s perception is that coffee that comes from a trad machine is better than a B2C offer’, he said. ‘The concept behind this machine is that Douwe Egberts invites everybody to run their own coffee bar, delivering drinks that are normally only available thanks to trained baristas.’
Take a peek at the video.
It’s a self-serve machine; but unlike most table-tops or coffee towers it boasts a 20 ltr milk capacity. Milk is stored in 4 x 5 ltr reservoirs and the machine can auto-change to a new reservoir when the old one runs out – and when it needs to be re-filled, it contacts the operator.
‘It’s not as though you choose whether or not to have an extra shot’, Martijn concluded, ‘with this machine you can even choose between three different types of coffee beans.’
The best thing about this machine – aside from the delicious coffee, of course – is that you can make multiple drink selections and pay in one transaction. If you’ve got to get a round in, it couldn’t be easier.
Taste test? Passed with flying colours. This is a hell of a machine folks…
