Sustainability: If it can be done, Evoca is doing it.

Sustainability: by Andrew Barrow. Sales Director Evoca UK

Over the last couple of years, Evoca has been on a transformational journey to put sustainability at the heart of our business. This renewed focus has resulted in a raft of changes, many of which have received important accolades.

Evoca’s comprehensive 2024 Sustainability Report ran to 59 pages and this article shares some of the key elements that underline our continued commitment to conducting business with the minimum of environmental impact.

One of many highlights for us was the award of an 83/100 Platinum EcoVadis sustainability rating. To achieve this coveted recognition, all of our environmental, labour and human rights, ethics and procurement practices were audited. The fact that this award was bestowed on us places Evoca in the top 1% of companies assessed. It’s a source of great pride throughout the business.

During the same period, we delivered a 28% reduction in our total Scope 3 emissions, compared to our 2022 baseline. Scope 3 emissions refer to the indirect greenhouse gas emissions that occur in a company’s value chain.

Additionally, more than 400 of our suppliers across the business have signed-up to join our new, third-party supply chain ESG risk assessment platform. An ESG risk assessment involves evaluating a company’s exposure to environmental, social, and governance risks. It’s a process that helps us to identify potential challenges that may impact on our performance or our reputation.

Moreover, we’ve also been hands-on with our products to improve their cradle-to-grave sustainability. As a customer, you’ll see the effects of this in four areas.

First, we introduced modularisation. This has allowed us to standardise production, simplify any repairs and facilitate the reuse of components products at end of life. Next, we’ve improved the total cost of ownership by making our products cheaper to operate. We’ve further embraced circularity. The circular economy is a model of production and consumption that involves sharing, reusing, repairing, refurbishing and recycling existing materials and products as long as possible; extending the the life cycles of our products and reducing waste to a minimum. We’ve also adopted alternative materials in the manufacturing process, notably bioplastics, which are derived from renewable biomass sources like plants, rather than fossil fuels.

Naturally, none of these changes will compromise our absolute commitment to in-cup quality. It will always be our mission to deliver a great coffee experience every time.

sustainabilityFinally, let’s focus on the important sustainability initiatives we introduced in 2024.

We launched Product Carbon Footprint Scorecards across our complete range, which gives you, the customer, a unique overview of the sustainability credentials of every single one of our products.

  • We achieved UNI/PdR 125:20221 certification for Evoca S.p. This recognises our efforts to build an inclusive work environment, in which all our employees are guaranteed equal opportunities.
  • The second annual sustainability report (referred to at the beginning of this article) is the first to have been independently assured.
  • We’ve strengthened our processes and policies, which substantially improved our EcoVadis rating. An EcoVadis rating is a company-specific sustainability assessment based on a 0-100 score. It evaluates performance across environment, labour & human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement; using a methodology focused on policies, actions, and results. We’ve moved up from Bronze – to Platinum.
  • We’ve been added to Sustainalytics’ list of Industry Top Rated Companies. This is a distinction awarded only to the highest scoring companies in a sector and we’re delighted to tell you that Evoca now ranks in the top 2% out of 576 companies in the global machinery industry.

Manufacturing products sustainably is a necessity of the times we live in. Your customers may well be asking you to explain how the refreshment solutions you are proposing adhere to this pre-requisite. We hope you’ll agree that as a company, we are doing all we can to help you to approach any new opportunity confident in the fact that, if it can be done, Evoca is doing it.
