NPD: That’s What Keeps Huhtamaki Ahead Of The Game

Huhtamaki is celebrating being crowned the UK’s ‘Best Cup Company’, at the Vending Industry Awards 2014’ – and UK Vending Sales Manager, Ray McNamara, puts the company’s success down to New Product Development.

“Huhtamaki prides itself on NPD, a key investment which allows us to stay ahead of our competitors when it comes to providing the marketplace with innovative and responsible manufacturing.”, he said. “We very much feel that this is what is required when you are the leading player in the global cup market, and are also extremely proud that our cups are manufactured right here in the UK, in our Gosport factory.”

Huhtamaki was, for example, the first UK manufacturer to develop a double wall paper vending cup – providing consumers with the ultimate gourmet coffee vending experience. A benchmark for the future of coffee vending, the double wall cup signifies the commitment undertaken by the industry in providing a coffee shop experience for consumers away from the high street, and ensures that a quality cup of coffee can be delivered and enjoyed anywhere.

Furthermore, Huhtamaki’s customers are particularly impressed with the Company’s pioneering CSR and environmental work. All of Huhtamaki UK’s paper products are 100% PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) Chain of Custody certified and are fully compliant in accordance with the EU Timber Regulation No. 995/2010.

To help meet the growing demand for quality, environmentally-friendly disposable products within the vending industry, Huhtamaki introduced its fully compostable BioWare ‘Love nature’ 9oz paper vending cup. Like all BioWare products, the Love nature vending cup is certified in accordance with EN13432 – the European norm for compostability of packaging. Its modern design features a contemporary ‘Love nature’ logo to help enhance consumer appeal, whilst clearly and stylishly communicating the environmental message of the product too.

Reflecting on the ‘Best Cup Company’ award, Ray told PV: “We’d like to thank our loyal customers for their continued support, and congratulate the Automatic Vending Association (AVA) on organising another successful Awards evening – it was great to be able to celebrate with colleagues and industry friends.”
