I don’t think it matters what job you do. There are occasions when you think, ‘why do I bother?’
I’ll own up: I’ve had a few of those in my time, we all have. But every now and then, something random happens and you remember why you love the job, why you wouldn’t trade it for any other.
Receiving the Special Recognition Award, as voted for by NIVO members, in the NIVO Awards, was one of those random events. It put a smile on my face and a lump in my throat. ‘Awarded by NIVO with our greatest appreciation on the recognition for your dedication to NIVO and the Vending Industry,’ it said. The fact that this recognition comes from people, many of whom I’ve known for donkey’s years, who have been with us through all the ups and downs, means such a lot.
It was great too that ARN won the vote in the NIVO Awards Vending Consumables category. The citation said ‘Nominated by NIVO members for their ongoing emphasis on service and consistently providing the highest levels of support.’ I mean, that’s our raison d’être, ‘providing the highest levels of support’. The fact that our efforts during the pandemic have been recognised with this award is the icing on the cake.
At last, things seem to be getting back to normal. I’ve had a go at one or two suppliers in recent months but hats off to them all; they’re working flat out to meet demand and they’re definitely getting there.
All I want to say this time is ‘thank-you’ to NIVO and its members. Our NIVO Awards are much appreciated. I guarantee it’ll be a while before the next time I find myself asking ‘why do I bother?’
Meanwhile, back to work
