Douwe Egberts has announced the launch of the world’s first vendable double-wall cup. The new product, which the company has developed in partnership with Crane and Huhtamaki, is being tipped to ‘revolutionise gourmet coffee vending’.
Martyn Bell, Marketing Director for Douwe Egberts Professional, told PV ‘There is a renewed excitement for great quality coffee, with consumers now willing to pay more for their espresso-based drinks. To continue competing with high street coffee shops it is essential that consumers are served coffee in a premium cup with relevant branding. We see the double walled cup as an essential step in our journey to satisfy the consumer demand for gourmet quality coffee from vending machines.

‘By working in partnership with the world’s largest packaging company, we can ensure that vending solutions, like our Espresso Bar, offer consumers great quality and consistency. By doing this we can provide a vending solution that will drive value, customer loyalty and open up new opportunities.’
The cup is designed to offer a high insulation against hot liquids, eliminating any requirement for additional sleeves. The double-wall also has a visual benefit, as consumers associate it with ‘premium’ HIghh Street coffee offers.
Launched at AVEX 2013, (and covered by PV at the time), the cups were designed to be used in conjunction with Douwe Egberts’ latest Espresso Bar coffee vending concept, a gourmet vending solution that aims to improve the quality of vended coffee. This year the company has revolutionised the look and feel of its Espresso Bar – giving it a modern, sophisticated face-lift, which is in line with consumers’ expectations of a high quality coffee.
The foundation of the coffee bar concept is the quality of its coffee beans. With over 260 years of coffee roasting experience, Douwe Egberts beans consistently produce coffee of the very highest quality, and as such can command a higher cup price from consumers.
