What Do You Think Automatic Retailing Should Do For Charity This Year?

This is the question the Automatic Retailing team has been asking in their blog recently… thanks to AR for their submission to our blog pages this week.

(And forget about ‘climbing mountains’ or ‘jumping out of planes’!) says Automatic Retailing.

We’ll definitely be doing something grueling this year in aid of charity; only as we write, we’re not sure what we’ll do, or when we’ll do it, or even which charity we’ll do it for…

Normally, we hold an event in May, for which we start training at the end of February. (And when we say ‘training’, we mean walk miles, then going to the pub).

So let’s imagine, for the sake of argument, that it’ll be May again. And rest assured that we’ll come up with a worthy cause: we’ll ask all our staff to make suggestions and then we’ll decide which one to support by a secret ballot.

The real problem we have is, ‘what shall we do?’ And that’s where you come in.

We climbed up Skiddaw last year. For those in the dark, Skiddaw is a mountain in the Lake District National Park in England and its 931 metre summit is the sixth-highest in England. It lies just north of the town of Keswick, Cumbria, and dominates the skyline of the northern lakes.

And last year, it nearly killed us. One of our party, who shall remain nameless, cried when we got to the top. ‘I am never, never, ever going up a mountain again’, she said.

And who can blame her? After all, we endured just about every variation of inclement weather as we made our way up and down…

So we’re looking for something new to do. Something that all our team can be a part of. We’ve talked about parachute and bungee jumps, so you’ll need to be a bit more imaginative than that – but if you have a really good, original fund-raising idea, that would attract a sponsor or two, then let us know.

Not this time!

We await your suggestions with a sense of anticipation mixed with sheer dread. We just know that the most potentially painful proposal we receive will be the one we pick…
