ARN at Vendex Midlands
Hello again
Stick with me through this first bit – it’ll be worth it…
One of my pet hates is marketing speak. Let’s take just one example. Apparently, it has its origins in late-fifties Madison Avenue; you know, around the time Don Draper was ripping it up in ‘Mad Men’. Here goes: ‘let’s run it up the flagpole and see who salutes.’
The first time I heard it, it made me smile, the hundredth time I heard it, it made me cringe. There followed no end of variations on the same theme, like ‘let’s drop it in the pool and see if it floats’, ‘let’s chuck it at the wall and see if it sticks’ and my personal favourite, the lamentable ‘let’s put it in a saucer and see if the cat laps it up’.

All that aside. A year ago, we had an idea. The idea was to work with our suppliers to create a series of mega-deals that were only available to ARN customers who visited our stand at Vendex. It sounded like a good idea, that it had legs; that was worth putting to our amazing suppliers. Do you know how I responded? It pains me to admit it, but quick as a flash, I said ‘let’s run it up the flagpole and see who salutes.’
Well, we had plenty of salutes, that’s for sure; and so for the first time, we offered some incredible ‘on the day’ exclusives. The reaction was seismic. Our sales at the event were unprecedented and that was because our customers recognise genuine bargains when they look them in the eye. We created a buzz that echoed through the industry and the up-shot of it all is that, this year, our suppliers have been clamouring to offer their own, amazing ‘on the day’ deals.

I’m not going to give the game away now, but I will whet your appetite. Juice Burst are all over it. Nestle Gold Blend have come up with a promotion that’s so good, your response will be an incredulous ‘how much?’, for all the right reasons. Mars are backing Snickers, Twix and Skittles with some serious muscle; Coca Cola Zero (in cans and bottles) and Monster have some, er monster deals and that’s before I’ve mentioned jaw-dropping offers from Vitamin Well, Kellogs, AG Barr; Swizzels Squashies (they’re at an unbelievable price) and loads, loads more – with even more in the pipeline.

So, the way I see it, Vendex Midlands is going to be a Buyer’s Bonanza for ARN customers that visit our stand. To say that we’re looking forward to the madness of the event is an understatement. Will we see you there?
