PV welcomes Parcel Holders, latest to sign up as one of our guest blogs, this time we read about about Monika Douglas…
Monika – or ‘Mon’ as she’s known to many – is our Director of Operations. She’s the longest serving member of the team and she’s been in the thick of everything from the beginning.
Mon came to England from Poland to complete the last year of her degree course and she never went back. Having graduated, she found a job with Richardson Birkett Communications, before joining AOL, working first in the marketing department and then in operations. She was on maternity leave when the company was taken over by Carphone Warehouse so she never actually worked for the new owners: with a child on the way, the family left ‘The Smoke’ for Bristol, husband Matthew’s home town, to be close to grandma and grandad.
She joined us in 2009 as Sales Manager, but these days she has a wide-ranging brief, which she describes as ‘keeping the business running smoothly’. She’s the one who heats-up the phone lines in the quest for new business, at the same time as implementing bespoke solutions for our clients.
If you’ve ever met Mon, you’ll remember her… she’s no shrinking violet! She’s a real go-getter, full of enthusiasm and energy; never happy unless she’s making something happen. For instance, if a parcel needs tracking down, Mon makes sure no stone goes un-turned until it’s located. Ed’s spot on when he says ‘she can be like a dog with a bone’; and that positivity is very infectious.
‘I just love the buzz of meeting people, solving problems, getting things sorted… that’s the real enjoyment of the job for me’, Mon says.
When her nose temporarily leaves the grindstone, you’re likely to find Mon exercising. Training at the gym and jogging are her weapons of choice in the fight to remain fit. When she kicks off her trainers, she’s likely to be reading, (her favourite author is Paulo Coelho) or travelling and – of course – looking after her daughters, Maya and Amelie.
