NIVO was ‘delighted’ to support a special day out at West Yorkshire Playhouse in Leeds for over 170 children, organised by RNIB and Acton for Blind People. The visually impaired children, their siblings, parents and carers experienced a special audio-described performance of James and the Giant Peach, which was sponsored by NIVO, utilising funds raised at auctions and raffles.
Thanks to the kind donations of some of the organisation’s supply partners, each child received a ‘goody bag’,
The day began with the children looking at and touching the cast’s costumes, followed by lunch. Once seated in the theatre, the actors mingled with the audience, meeting the children and allowing them to feel and to experience their costumes. The magical performance included the giant peach leaping over the heads of the audience to the delight of the children who, with their arms above their heads, managed to push the peach up each time it dropped.

In the interval, NIVO’s Michelle Hefferon presented RNIB ‘pen friend’ prizes to 8 lucky winners. This particular item had been hand-picked by NIVO Chairman, Michael Levi as he personally finds it extremely useful. The device labels items: when the label is scanned, it identifies the item, for example ‘Black Shoes’, or ‘Brown Jacket’. CDs, books: pretty much any item can be labelled. Mr. Levi, himself visually impaired, loves the gadget and tells us it’s the reason he no longer wears a purple tie with a green shirt!
‘We are only too pleased to support this fantastic event, Michelle said, ‘and we look forward to continuing to do so, with the much-appreciated support of our members and supply partners.’
*NIVO extended thanks to Walkers Crisps, Coffetek, Burts Chips, Ferrero, Fruitbowl, Britvic, Bronte biscuits, Sweet Moments, Weetabix, KP Snacks, Barrs, Bunzl and RPC.
