Vending Comes Alive – A Decorum Vending initiative

In what is understood to be the first in the UK, Decorum Vending has installed new vending machines fitted with living walls. Working with their partners, Regency Design and PHS Greenleaf, Decorum Vending have created living walls – which maximise vertical space to grow plants.

The living walls will positively contribute towards climate resilience by capturing particulates from the air and improving biodiversity in their locations – helping make the stations a greener and happier place.

Living WallsThe walls are attached to the new A+ rated vending machines which provide customers with a range of cold drinks, snacks and healthier offerings, including a range of Britvic soft drinks such as Pepsi MAX, 7UP Zero and Lipton Ice Tea.

Living WallsDeclan Sewell, Managing Director of Decorum Vending said, “I am delighted to have installed the first of our new vending machines with living walls at Bournemouth train station.  We are confident that customers will be attracted not only by our large product range and customer friendly machines but also by our strides towards sustainability. Our new machines and living walls are part of our commitment to improve energy efficiency and environmental impact. The living walls structures are made from recycled coffee grounds and use an innovative capillary watering system, meaning the plants feed when they are hungry and remove any water waste. We have also ensured through our partners PHS Green Leaf that all plants when removed, are put back into biomass to create a complete closed-circuit solution.”

James Cripps, Customer Development Manager at Britvic said, “We have worked with Decorum Vending for a number of years and are really happy to support them with this innovation project. At Britvic, we are passionate about creating a healthier planet as part of our Healthier People, Healthier Planet sustainability strategy, so it seemed fitting for Britvic to be a part of this positive initiative. Not only will the living walls have an impact on sustainability, but it’s great to see greenery in stations, providing a more attractive, happier environment for consumers.”

Read this in a couple of sittings. He brings the same clarity and detail to his book as he does to the reports that have made him a well-known and respected figure on the Beeb. I wish we had more journalists like him. But this book is useful well beyond the media world
