Boots Manchester Store Hosts First Protein Shake Vending Machine

BootsBoots has started offering freshly-made protein shakes from a vending machine. Is it the first of its kind in the UK?

The pilot machine in the retailer’s Health & Wellness store in Manchester. The brainchild of sports nutrition brand Bio-Synergy, users can use the machine and choose between various dairy and plant-based shakes – at £3 a pop.

The drinks are dispensed into recyclable takeaway cups. Better yet, consumers can opt to fill their own cups.

Boots says that the shakes are ‘ideal for pre or post-workout, or as a protein-rich alternative to high sugar, high-calorie drinks and snacks’.

Bio-Synergy is planning to extend the concept into retail, forecourts and gyms

Bio-Synergy is planning to extend the concept into retail, forecourts and gyms. ‘We are incredibly excited to be the first sports nutrition brand to bring on-the-go protein shakes to the retail space with Boots’, Founder Daniel Herman said. ‘Since starting Bio-Synergy over 20 years ago, there has been a definite shift in the type of consumer interested in sports nutrition. Traditionally seen as a space for gym goers, athletes and sports people, it’s amazing the varied customers we get now, who are choosing to enhance their well-being and fitness through sports nutrition and supplementation.

‘We’re absolutely delighted to work with Boots to offer a high-quality, nutritionally sound protein shake, that can be enjoyed on-the-go and fit in with a busy lifestyle. With consumer demand at an all-time high, our goal is to have a protein shake vending machine next to every coffee and hot drinks machine. Let the sports nutrition revolution begin!’
