Becktech Hires Acteson As The Company Builds For The Future

Becktech is building for the future. Consistent and sustained business growth, coupled with an admission that ‘marketing has never been our strongpoint’, has persuaded the Chichester based company to hire its first ever specialist Sales and Marketing Executive: Alex Acteson.

‘I studied Business and International Marketing at Solent University (Southampton) and graduated in 2004’, Alex told PV. ‘After leaving Uni I became Marketing Manager for Coral Brighton & Hove Greyhound Stadium, moving on after four years. Prior to joining Becktech, I was a Campaign Manager for Pro-Active in Chichester. Since I arrived at Becktech, everybody in the team has been fantastic. They’ve all welcomed me with open arms and nothing has been too much trouble.’

Becktech started life in 1981, selling components to vending machine manufacturers and pumps for use in the beverage industry. The pumps side of the business has expanded beyond beverages over the years and these days, the company, as Chichester Pumps, distributes equipment to a diversity of industrial sectors.

On the other hand, Becktech’s ‘Vend Shop’ brand brings together a wide range of vending-related components, including moulded plastic parts, complete assemblies; Brita Professional water filters and pumps, all of which are available to purchase on line, via an intuitive and user-friendly web interface.

‘Our business is both growing and diversifying’, MD Rob Webb told PV. ‘It’s important that we make the most of the opportunities incumbent in the positive sales trends that we’re experiencing – and with a new catalogue and re-vamped web-site arriving imminently, we decided that the time was right to bring in some specialist expertise.

Becktech‘Our vending customers consist of both manufacturers and vending machine operators’, Rob said. ‘We work with most of the UK based manufacturers, supplying them with anything from half a dozen to over a hundred components.’

Another important facet to Becktech’s offer to the vending trade is refurbishment. ‘We offer first-class refurbishment services for high cost components such as cup mechanisms, grinders and brewers’, Rob said. ‘We’ve been serving OEM and operator customers in vending for over 30 years, supplying new and original machine parts, BRITA water filters and a range of own-brand products.

We’re an owner-managed business and our focus is on delivering great customer service. Customers’ orders are generally despatched on the day they come in to the office and that’s because we keep thousands of products in stock. Our online shop is continually being updated to reflect this.’Becktech

Although based as far south as you can get without paddling in the Channel, Becktech, with its complement of ten employees, provides national coverage.

The trouble is that, until now, the company’s successes have been amongst vending’s best kept secrets: ‘It’s true’, Rob said. ‘We’ve been under the radar and behind the scenes, so we’re very much hoping that Alex’s arrival will change all that.’

Well, Rob, she made the best possible start when she got in touch with Planet Vending

The Editor

Planet Vending’s Editor is Ian Reynolds-Young and it’s Ian’s unique writing talent that has made PV what it is today – the best read (red) vending blog in the world, and vending’s best read (reed). Ian ‘tripped and fell into vending’, in the capacity of PR executive, before launching a specialist agency, ‘reynoldscopy’, dedicated to the UK Vending business. The company continues to represent the interests of many of the sector’s leading brands.

‘It’s all about telling stories’, he says. ‘We want to make every visit to PV a rewarding experience. By celebrating the achievements of the UK’s operating companies, we’re on a mission to debunk the idea that vending is retailing’s poor relation.’
