ARN’s Ones to watch 8: Are you in the mood to learn a new language? The way things are going in the fast-developing – and expanding – world of energy drinks you will, at the very least, need to be ready to take on board a few unfamiliar words…

This month we’re launching a really exciting new range of what are called ‘functional beverages’. The brand to watch out for is NOCCO, the product we’re offering is called BCAA. Both of which need some explanation to those who do not qualify as ‘gym bunnies’.

NOCCO is a contraction of No Carbs Company, a Swedish beverage brand that launched in December 2014 with a focus on health and fitness. As for BCCA, that stands for ‘Branched Chain Amino Acids’. BCAAs are essential nutrients and include leucine, isoleucine, and valine. They’re found in meat, dairy, and pulses and they are sought after by many because they stimulate the building of protein in muscle – and possibly reduce muscle breakdown.

Most of which was news to us, but consumer demand for this product seems to know no bounds – especially where body-conscious people work out…

Currently, NOCCO has eight carbonated flavours and three non-carbonated. All NOCCO products are sugar-free, and sweetened with sucralose.

Another name that may be new to you is Love Raw. On the other hand, you might remember that Love Raw’s owners, Manav and Rimi Thapar, turned down Dragon Deborah Meaden’s offer in the Den, so confident were they of the viability of their vegan chocolate products. The company, now backed by a seven-figure investment from specialist venture capitalist Blue Horizon, never looked back. The secret of its success – and our reason for bringing it to you – goes right back to the entrepreneurs’ original pitch: ‘So we had this crazy idea: make legendary vegan chocolate that tastes like chocolate chocolate.’ What’s not to like?

Finally, Lavazza’s Lavazza ‘Expert’ range of coffee beans, optimised for use within the UK’s expanding park of bean to cup machines, is a real bonus for anyone who’s been forced to discard unused beans because they lost their flavour in the hopper. It’s all very technical, but it’s down to the fact that the characteristics of this blend ‘keep its organoleptic properties until the moment at which it is brewed, even if the coffee is stored inside the automatic distributor of super-automatic coffee machine for prolonged periods of time.’ So now you know.
