Wise Words of Williams – Part 2

Planet Vending thanks Coinadrink MD, Roger Williams, for his blog contribution this month. For more Wise Words of Wisdom and other news from Coinadrink, follow Roger and the team here.

‘I can’t help but smile when people tell me that one of their business goals is ‘the achievement of consistency.’ I smile because, in my eyes, ‘consistency’ means your business has hit a brick wall.

In my opinion, a successful company isn’t one that tries to do everything in the same way, day after day – a successful business is one that’s always trying to do everything better.

There’s an old adage: ‘there are no such things as problems, only opportunities.’ Take ISO accreditations for example. Some companies take the view that accreditations are an unnecessary distraction, mere ‘boxes that have to be ticked’: but that’s never been the Coinadrink attitude…

We treat the ‘three’ areas of Quality Management, Environmental Management and Health & Safety as one; and rather than see the incumbent external audits as ‘problems’, we see them as ‘opportunities’. After all, it’s the results of external audits that reassure our customers that we’re taking our responsibilities as a supplier and as an employer seriously. We can point people towards our various accreditations and say to them, ‘don’t take our word for it…’

The thing is, nothing’s written down. I’ve seen ISO folders ten-feet thick and I expect you have, too; but we don’t do it that way. Everything our people need to know is available on laptops, but they rarely need to consult the on-line oracle because they’re all immersed in what you might call ‘The Coinadrink Way’.

The Coinadrink Way: if it was in the dictionary, the definition would be given as ‘dedicated to continuous improvement.’

We welcome external audits. They help us to run our business better. The accreditations that we’re proud to display on our stationery, our literature and on-line are not just pretty badges: rather, they’re proof of the effectiveness of the work we’re doing constantly, behind the scenes, to make Coinadrink a better supplier, a better employer and a better company to do business with.

Thanks for reading, and if you haven’t read part one yet – here it is
Yours

Roger Williams
