As you may be aware the Bank of England is currently considering changing the way our bank notes are made to increase their longevity. The initial consideration is to change the £5 and £10 notes. There are two choices with the first being most likely:
- Polymer notes i.e. plasticised – they would be smaller
- Future paper which has a varnish seal on it – they would be the same size
The Polymer note would have three times the life of a current note and future paper would have a 30% increase in life.
The Bank has asked the AVA for information relating our sector, in particular about the number of note readers that are currently out in the market. To try to estimate this accurately, the AVA needs your feedback about note readers numbers
Operators can express this as a percentage of field base against the following machines:
- Coffee machine
- Snack machines
- Cold drinks machines
- Food machines
This will allow the AVA to estimate the number that is currently in the field and subsequently to work out the cost to the industry of implementing changes.
