Selecta UK Ltd is delighted to announce that as part of its continued Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme it has donated in excess of 200 trees to two schools as part of an ongoing drive to offset its Carbon Footprint.

Selecta is committed to reducing its carbon footprint in a variety of ways and is delighted to be able to donate the trees to Ryecroft Academy, Leeds and Winklebury Primary School, Basingstoke. Working with Carbon Footprint Ltd, an organisation that assists companies offset their carbon footprint, the trees will not only help to reduce carbon emissions, but also provide biodiversity benefits and wildlife habitats.

Children from two classes were shown how to plant the trees and had a lot of fun choosing the trees, digging the holes and planting them with help from the Selecta.

“Selecta have a programme of sustainability and are committed to reducing carbon emissions in their business. By planting in the schools, they’re making a conscious effort to benefit local communities and to educate the younger generation on being responsible for the environment.” stated Dr Wendy Buckley, founder and director of Carbon Footprint Ltd.

“Selecta is committed to reducing our carbon footprint in a number of ways of which the tree planting event in Leeds is an exciting part and one in which I personally took part.  The opportunity to educate children on the importance of the environment is also one we were pleased to take.” stated Wayne Tessier, Sales and Marketing Director UK and Ireland of Selecta UK Ltd.

“We were delighted to receive over 100 native species of trees to plant in the school grounds. Children in Year 4 and 5 spent time planting them, learning about the different species and especially enjoyed digging holes to plant them in! The habitat they have created forms part of a larger plan to encourage wildlife into the school grounds by creating a variety of habitats including a pond and wild flower garden. When ultimately the nature area is established there will be lots of exciting opportunities for our children to learn outdoors which will enrich our exciting curriculum’. Stated Simon Day, Year 6 teacher, Ryecroft Academy, Leeds. He continued,Many thanks to staff from ‘Selecta’ who provided the trees as part of the ‘Trees for Schools’ project and who enabled the children to have such an enjoyable experience.”

Tree planting forms just one part of Selecta’s comprehensive CSR policy. Selecta has a major ongoing focus to reduce the emissions made by our fleet of vehicles including the introduction of speed limiters and cleaner Euro 5 eco engines with stop/start technology. Activity also extends to charity work, supporting the community as well as ongoing work to make the equipment more energy efficient.
