N&W’s festive mailer makes a timely point…

N&W’s E Christmas card arrives in corporate in-boxes today and it takes a festive swipe at the industry’s apparent willingness to present customers with a ‘make-do-and-mend’ vending offer.
‘We couldn’t resist the idea when it came up.’ Dave Ward
‘We couldn’t resist the idea when it came up’, said N&W’s MD Dave Ward. ‘The very thought that we’d present a pre-used Christmas card to our customers seemed inconceivable to us, but then so does the idea of offering customers a pre-used vending machine. We just thought our customers would enjoy the joke.’
The card’s central image is of a crystallised snowflake, set against a red background. The original greeting, in French, has been ‘scribbled over’ and the words ‘Season’s Greetings’ have been added, apparently, in ‘biro’.
The accompanying festive message, under the heading ‘Ring Out The Old Ring In The New’, reads thus: ‘In a bid to cut costs without compromising service levels, we at N&W have decided that this year, we will issue our valued customers and friends with a refurbished Christmas card. New, modern cards reflect contemporary tastes and expectations and some of them even feature moving images, instead of the same old, same old still pictures. We know this card isn’t quite the same ‘quality experience’ as you might have liked, but hey, you got a card didn’t you? It’s the thought that counts! With tongue firmly in cheek, may we wish all our loyal customers a Merry Christmas and a Happy N&W Year.’
Quite how customers will react to N&W’s Christmas cracker remains to be seen, but Dave’s confident they’ll ‘get it’. ‘If it makes them commit to up-grading their vending park in 2013 then we’ll all be in for a happy new year’, he said with a smile. ‘With the economy in its present state, we could all do with a laugh!’
