Nerds : ‘If you haven’t given them a go yet, here’s why you should…’

Nerds: By Adam O’Brien

Hello everyone

I’m glad to say that my first post, about our amazing Maryland Minis range, went down as well with readers as the biscuits do with consumers; so here I go again, this time out with a focus on Nerds.

It was as recently as July 2024 that Fox’s Burton’s Companies (or FBC for short) announced itself as the sole importer of Nerds Candy in the UK and Republic of Ireland and since then it’s been all systems go!

Nerds, for the uninitiated, began its journey as a small, pebble-like confection with a signature sweet and sour taste. These tiny sweets came in a variety of colours that gave fans a mix of tangy, fruity goodness with every handful. They were soon massive in the USA and they’re heading that way over here, as the numbers prove – and Nerds as a brand has recently been super elevated, thanks to the incredibly successful launch of Gummy Clusters product, which has made Nerds so much more than just a tiny sweet in a carton…

Nerds

In a sector populated by household name products, Nerds has entered the RSV charts at Number 8. With over £30m in sales in. the past year, it’s ahead of both Mentos and Fruit-tella. And don’t forget: that’s from a standing start. And by the way, this makes Nerds the Number One in terms of growth and the fastest growing year on year product in the sector.

‘…you can see why I’m here blowing my trumpet about Nerds!’

We’ve analysed our sales and the good news is that Nerds is performing particularly well in Shopping Centres, Universities, Hospitals, Airports and B&I sites. Which is pretty much everywhere that has vending machines – and that’s why we’ve recently added a 45g bag to our range that really is custom made for the vending space.

So, you can see why I’m here blowing my trumpet about Nerds! If you haven’t given them a go yet, now’s the time…

Well, I’ve said my piece so I’ll say, ‘bye for now’. Meanwhile, if you’re off to Vendex this month, make sure you come and say ‘hello’. You’ll find me and the FBC team on Stand 130.

Until next time, happy vending!

The company continues to represent the interests of many of the sector’s leading brands.

‘It’s all about telling stories’, he says. ‘We want to make every visit to PV a rewarding experience. By celebrating the achievements of the UK’s operating companies, we’re on a mission to debunk the idea that vending is retailing’s poor relation.’
