UK’s ‘Best Cup Company’ Supports ‘Simply Cups’ Recycling Scheme

The UK’s ‘Best Cup Company’, as voted by AVA members, Huhtamaki – a founding member of the Paper Cup Recovery and Recycling Group – is proud to be a member of the Simply Cups recycling scheme. The scheme, which currently operates within the M25, provides a cost-efficient collection and recycling service to help paper cup manufacturers and organisations operating within the supply chain reduce their operating costs and improve their environmental credentials.

Neil Whittall, Commercial and Contracts Director, Huhtamaki (UK) Ltd. told PV: ‘Many of our customers ask if there is a paper cup recycling service available, so by choosing to support initiatives introduced to the industry by Simply Cups and the Paper Cup Recovery and Recycling Group we can, as a responsible manufacturer of disposable packaging products, provide them with information and options for recycling.

“We are proud to be able to offer our customers the help and assistance they need in order for them to inform their customers about how the market is able to deal with products after their use within the foodservice environment; and it is through our involvement with both of these schemes that we are able to further drive our dedication and commitment to helping find solutions. As a result, we are looking forward to working closely with Simply Cups in developing opportunities that will add value to our customers, whist introducing them to the programme wherever we can.”

ENJOYFrom the start of the paper cup supply chain, Huhtamaki is able to provide customers with information on the sustainability of its products, such as the use of 100% PEFC paper board material. In addition, Huhtamaki’s UK manufacturing is coupled with the Company’s business-wise ethos which ensures they meet the exacting standards required by today’s caring customer and consumer. This includes Huhtamaki’s commitment to quality (ISO9001), and health and safety (ISO18001) – dedication to responsible manufacturing which led Huhtamaki to become the first UK cup manufacturer to achieve ISO 14001 environmental accreditation.

Huhtamaki continues to be committed to working with interested parties in encouraging the collection and recycling of products wherever possible, and as a result, the Company is proud to be a founder member of the cross-industry Paper Cup Recovery and Recycling Group, members of the Foodservice Packaging Association (through which Huhtamaki is also a signatory of the WRAP Hospitality and Foodservice agreement) and supporter of Simply Cups. The Company dedicates time and resources to projects within the market and community that contribute towards improving the performance of its products throughout their lifecycle.
